Biography

My name is Dorcas Godspower. I am an Honors student at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University pursuing a double major in Chemistry and Applied Mathematics. My academic path reflects a strong interest in combining rigorous quantitative analysis with problem-solving in the physical sciences. Through my coursework and research experiences, I have developed skills in laboratory methods, data analysis, and mathematical modeling, and I am eager to apply these tools to real-world challenges. As an Honors student, I am committed to academic excellence and interdisciplinary learning. My long-term goal is to pursue advanced studies and a career in medicine, where I can integrate my scientific training with service and innovation. Beyond academics, I bring persistence, adaptability, and leadership as the first daughter in a family of four siblings, qualities that have strengthened my ability to thrive in collaborative environments. I look forward to the SRP Matching Workshop as an opportunity to broaden my research experience, learn from potential mentors, and contribute meaningfully to interdisciplinary projects.

Motivation

I want to participate in the Sustainable Research Pathways program because it offers a rare opportunity to connect my classroom learning in chemistry and mathematics with real-world research. As an Honors student pursuing a double major, I am eager to strengthen my research skills, especially in areas that combine science, computation, and problem-solving. I am especially drawn to the mission of Sustainable Horizons Institute. The focus on building inclusive and supportive research communities resonates with me, and I want to both learn from mentors and contribute my own perspectives. Through this program, I hope to gain mentorship, develop research experience, and explore how my skills can be applied to interdisciplinary projects that benefit science and society. I also want to give back by encouraging other students at my university to pursue similar opportunities, helping to build a community where all voices are valued.
