Biography

My name is Abdul Mumeed Rashidi, and I am a first-year computer science student at Phoenix College. I am a member of the MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program and the Honors Program, maintaining a 3.5 GPA. As a first-generation college student, I am passionate about artificial intelligence and software development, with a strong interest in exploring how technology can solve real-world problems. To build a solid foundation, I am currently taking Java and College Algebra courses, and I actively participate in the Computer Science Club at Phoenix College, where I collaborate with peers to explore new technologies and strengthen my skills. After completing my studies at Phoenix College, I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Arizona State University’s Fulton Schools of Engineering. Looking further ahead, I aspire to either begin a career in artificial intelligence/software engineering or continue my education at the graduate level to contribute to advancing technology and its applications for society.

Motivation

My name is Abdul Mumeed Rashidi, and I am a first-generation college student studying computer science at Phoenix College. As an immigrant with limited resources, I developed a passion for computers and artificial intelligence. I have always been curious about how AI can be used to solve the challenges of today and tomorrow, not only in my community but also around the world. For example, AI can improve healthcare access by helping doctors detect diseases earlier through medical image analysis, and by predicting patient risks for conditions such as diabetes or heart disease so that preventive care can be provided before problems become critical. The Sustainable Research Pathways program will give me the opportunity to work with a diverse team of people and scientists, allowing me to gain real-world knowledge and access to research that I cannot experience in my current environment. Through the NAIRR program, I hope to gain hands-on experience in AI research, strengthen my technical skills, and prepare myself for future opportunities such as research internships and transferring to a four-year university. Most importantly, I want to use this experience to give back to others with limited opportunities and resources by sharing what I learn and encouraging students in my community to pursue science and technology.
